2011-11-29 – Updates Since Over a Year Ago
I mentioned that I *have* made updates. I don’t feel like properly linking to everything right now or organizing everything, so I’ll just somewhat vaguely describe it.
Stuff in unorganized isn’t meant to stay there forever, but for now I have some new stuff in there. In unorganized, I have calculus-wub-exam.jpg which I made and think is hilarious. I have this whole setup that I say before showing people the picture and asking them to help me with question V. I also have a subdirectory in there called “hand-trumpet” with a bunch of clips of me blowing into my hand like a trumpet and trying to play some songs.
Calculus?
I have my song list on the front page now, which currently matches the one I keep on my local desktop.
If you go into music and then more music, there is a fair bit of music. Stuff in more music is supposed to migrate into music once I stop being lazy, but I might need to re-evaluate how I do things. It seems a bunch of my older songs have also disappeared. In terms of music, harmony-in-the-discord.ogg, sky-ride.ogg, versions-of-you.ogg, my-my-little.ogg are all new. Those are in order of how much I like them.
Rainbow Attack
On deviantART, I added “Applejack’s Shady Past” and “Read or Tolerate”. I like “Read or Tolerate” a lot. The other one is just somewhat amusing. In more drawings, I’ve also got bubbles-on-twilight.jpg, pinkie-knife-coloured.jpg, rainbow-attack-colour-scaled.jpg, and a bunch of doodles in the pony-sketches subdirectory. There are some other new things there, but I plan to remove them. Actually, some of the ones I mentioned will also be renamed or moved to deviantART.
And there’s some stuff I left out, but I don’t care about *those*. As can be seen, I haven’t done nothing in the past year. University’s time consuming. I still think about the games I want to make or the stories I want to tell. I’m still planning on making a game, and I’ve asked an old friend to work with me on one once there’s time.
But in a way, this site is just one of those sites made by people who think, “I wanna have a website.” It’s not like I didn’t make any content. I made content, but this site’s not focused, and I don’t really have anything special to draw people here. A lot of the people who create awesome content online don’t even have websites, so I don’t necessarily need one either. I just need to make something of quality. But I want a website, so I’m going to steer this website toward something useful, instead of this idealized concept I used to have of what this website would be once I got things rolling. If one day I do make something amazing that needs a website, the website can grow itself around that. Maybe this website won’t even be good enough for it. Maybe it’ll need its own website.
I’ve gotten very wordy lately. Well, I’ve always been wordy, but I used to spend extra time shortening things. I do it less these days. I guess I have less time these days, or would rather spend that time doing other things. Maybe I just got into the habit after Facebook removed its word limit. It takes longer to write less. I’m out.
2011-11-29 – I’m Alive!
So it’s been a long time since I last updated. It’s been over a year. In reality, I have made updates, but they’ve been quiet unreported ones. As far as I know, nobody is actually visiting this site anyway, so it doesn’t matter that much.
That said, this whole website thing isn’t really going anywhere. I need to think about what I really want to do with this space and make better use of it.
Until I make that magical amazing game one day that everyone will love and come to this site for that I keep talking about, this is pointless. Back when I made this site, it was trickier to have an online precense, but now there are all sorts of blogs and whatnot.
The only people who really visited this site before was friend(s), but way more peole see my Facebook feed than visit my site. What’s the point of this site? Why does it exist?
Well, uploading files here is convenient. Even if I only show stuff to my friends on Facebook, I can still link to stuff on this site.
This is also useful for me personally, especially the song list. This site can be my home away from home.
It’s also about time I started using WordPress here. I considered using a CMS once and then decided against it because I figured editing an HTML file isn’t all that annoying. After seeing all the Facebook posts I’ve made, having something a bit more user friendly clearly does increase my output: my inane sleep deprived output.
I had concerns about things being difficult to back up too. For now, I basically have a whole copy of the site locally and upload after I make changes. With this new system, I’d be making updates online and then making a local backup. That’s fine. The other annoying thing is that the backup would be an SQL dump, not a bunch of nice HTML files. That’s fine too. If I really wanted things to be in a more readable format, I could just import it all back into a local WordPress installation and write a script to make a bunch of text files or something.
So that’s a couple things to do. Rearrange the site to make it more of a home desktop away from home for my own use. Use it more as a place to hold content that I want to show off to people on sites like Facebook or forums or chats or whatnot, because nobody actually visits this site otherwise. Not until I make that super awesome amazing game I keep thinking I’ll make one day, anyway. Or webcomic. Or movie. Or song. Or story. Or whatever else. Also, I need to install WordPress (WordPress didn’t exist back then. Before, I was thinking Joomla or Mambo or something I’d write on my own.). It’ll make updating the site that much more convenient at a whim and fun.
